In the majority of countries, students begin to study chemistry at the age of 14 or later. Meanwhile, there are many signs that it is too late to begin studying chemistry in this age. To get the experience and interest that is necessary to gain chemical theory, a person should begin to manipulate substances and materials much earlier – maybe even from kindergarten. I would like to encourage everybody who has experience in any chemical activities with students younger than 14 years old to share it within the symposium. We would also like to discuss whether any universal patterns can be concluded from this experience.

Denis made his Ph.D in environmental and organic chemistry but later shifted from chemical science to chemical education. He considers experiment to be the essential base for education and thus arranges all his chemistry teaching around chemical experiments. He works with different audience (from general public to chemistry majors and in-service teachers) and different ages (from 6 y.o to adults) in different working environment (from classes to homes and outdoor festivals; both online and in-person).
