Chemistry education is a field concerned with teaching and learning of chemistry. The content of Chemistry education research (CER) ranges from understanding the history and philosophy of chemistry, which guides on us how chemistry knowledge was developed, to the application of emerging technologies and tools for more effective teaching and learning of chemistry. CER has grown as a field substantially over the past 60 years but is still a relatively young subdiscipline of chemistry. Although substantial progress has been made in identifying evidence-based strategies to support the teaching and learning of chemistry, we have yet to realize widespread systemic change regarding how chemistry is taught at the secondary school and tertiary levels. Connecting chemistry educators at the secondary education level with chemistry education researchers in academia has never been more vitally needed, and yet these groups are still frustratingly divided.
Conferences, congresses and symposiums in CER serve as a medium to bring together practitioners and researchers to exchange ideas and recent developments. ICCE is one of the leading biannual conferences in CER initiated back in 1969 by IUPAC and ECRICE is the European equivalent run by the Division of Chemical Education of EuChemS. Turkish Chemical Society (TCS) organized the 18th ICCE in 2004 and also the 9th ECRICE in 2008. The joint organization of 28th ICCE & 17th ECRICE (ICCECRICE 2026) will bring the experience of ICCE and ECRICE back to Türkiye, which had been experienced in 2012 in Rome-Italy.
We welcome all chemistry education researchers from all over the World in Erzurum, Türkiye on July 13-17, 2026.
INVITATION
Welcome Message from
Chair of ICCECRICE 2026
Dear Colleagues
On behalf of the organising committee of the 28th IUPAC International Conference on Chemistry Education & 17th EuChemS European Conference of Research in Chemical Education (ICCECRICE 2026), it is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in ICCECRICE 2026 from July 13-17, 2026, in Erzurum, Türkiye.
ICCE and ECRICE are among the world’s leading international conferences, with a particular focus on promoting the advancement of chemistry education and research on an international scale. We firmly believe that the joint organisation of the 28th ICCE & 17th ECRICE will bring the experience of ICCE and ECRICE back to Türkiye, as was the case in 2012 in Rome, Italy. The ICCECRICE 2026 event will provide a valuable opportunity to research collaboration in chemistry education between Europe and the rest of the world via Anatolia, a region that also serves as a geographical and cultural bridge between Asia and Europe.
Integrating technology into chemistry teaching and learning is a transformative approach that empowers students and educators alike, creating a dynamic learning environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of chemistry. Therefore, the theme of the conference has been identified as “Chemistry Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence“. Whilst the emphasis is on technology integration, all areas of chemistry education research and practice will be given due priority at the conference.
We are looking forward to welcoming you, your family and colleagues at ICCECRICE 2026 in Erzurum, a city with a rich history of education spanning thousands of years.
Please mark your calendar in July!
With best wishes
Prof. Mustafa Sözbilir
Chair, ICCECRICE 2026
Welcome Message from President of Turkish Chemical Society
Dear Chemistry Educators,
I am delighted to extend this invitation on behalf of the Turkish Chemical Society to attend the ICCECRICE 2026.
The Turkish Chemical Society, founded in 1919, is one of the oldest and leading society serving to the advancement of chemistry in Türkiye. Turkish Chemical Society represents Türkiye in IUPAC since 1958, EuChemS since 1970 and FACS since 2013. Thanks to our membership in IUPAC, EuChemS and FACS, Turkish scientist have the opportunity to engage and collaborate with world leading scientist. One of these engagement opportunities is international conferences. As Turkish Chemical Society, we successfully organised major international chemistry education conferences in the past. The 18th ICCE in 2004 and the 9th ECRICE in 2008 were organised in in Istanbul, a city that is located on two continents.
On this occasion, we are planning to move to the eastern part of Türkiye. Erzurum is a major city in the north-east of Türkiye with a rich cultural and historical background. It is often referred to as the “Peak of Anatolia” as it is situated at 1900 m plateau. Atatürk University, founded as a land-grant university in 1957, is one of the largest public universities in Türkiye, as well as being among 20 public research universities in the country. Atatürk University has been serving as a hub of educational and cultural excellence, both domestically and internationally.
I am looking forward to hosting you in Türkiye.
Prof. Bahattin Yalçın
President of Turkish Chemical Society
